CyberGhost VPN Review

We like social media for its ability to share moments of our lives with the whole world at once. But at the same time, we want to stay private and keep some information secret. The more you become open on the Internet, the more you become vulnerable. A VPN (Virtual Private Network) technology helps people to stay secure while being online. One of the VPNs that is currently well-known is a CyberGhost VPN, and here you will find a quick review of its’ free version for Mac.

The CyberGhost VPN is a Romania-based service, that was established in 2011. It provides 1160 servers in 60 countries and regularly increases their number. You can use it on multiple platforms: Windows, iOS, macOS, Android, Linux, Router, Raspberry Pi, NAS, Sat Receiver and Chrome OS. You can download the application for your device for free and use it with some restrictions, or choose a subscription plan that starts at $3.50 per month for a two-year plan paid in advance.

The VPN CyberGhost Free Plan

To start using a CyberGhost free app for Mac, you can download it from the App Store or its official website. It is easy to install and use.

The interface is simple: you can select a Simulated Country or allow the app to connect to the random (nearest) country automatically in the lower left corner. Click on the yellow button to start your secure connection.

When you first start the app, you will see a list of CyberGhost features: preventing online tracking, ad-blocker, malicious content blocker, force HTTPS, data compression and extra speed. It is better to use them for having an additional protection from corporations that may use your online activity for personal gain, or from hackers and malware. To enable these features, as well as the ability to choose a simulated location, you will need to purchase a subscription plan.

However, even without these features, the CyberGhost Mac app changes your real IP address to a virtual location IP address. That gives you an access to geo-restricted websites and online services wherever you are.

Is CyberGhost Safe?

This VPN service uses an AES-256 bit encoding with PPTP, L2TP/IPSec, and OpenVPN protocols to provide the highest protection of your online activity. In other words, that means that all transferred information is unreadable for the third parties, while you are being online with a turned on VPN service. So, you can use passwords, credit cards, other important information on the web safely. Note that there is no VPN that can protect you from visiting untrusted websites or downloading suspicious files. That is  your responsibility, and a VPN is only a tool that helps you stay anonymous and get access to blocked content.

The CyberGhost VPN Usability

The Ghost VPN free plan allows you to connect to VPN servers in 12 countries. When I tried to connect, the application made me wait in line for 1-2 minutes before establishing a connection.

There is a list of servers on the CyberGhost website, where you can check the server load and choose one of free servers to use. As you can see, the difference between the number of online users of free servers and paid servers is evident.

This means that the more users use a particular server, the more bandwidth it reduces. Internet speed with the free plan CyberGhost VPN is good for basic use, but for torrenting it is too low.

free vpnConclusion

This quick CyberGhost review may help you to decide is it convenient for you to use a free plan with some limitations, or you need a paid plan to get more advantages.

Thus, the CyberGhost VPN free plan provides an unlimited traffic, servers in 12 countries and a secure connection. Its’ speed is enough for simple online actions. This service is available for multiple platforms and it’s easy to use. If you are using a public Wi-Fi in a cafe, airport or hotel, we recommend that you use at least a free VPN rather than nothing, in order to secure your data.

Unfortunately, there is no high-speed connection for torrenting or streaming in a free plan. Protection against malicious websites, online tracking, and ab-blockers are accessible in the paid plan only.
